Arribada Update: We’re waiting for news on a June arribada any time now…

Brovilla Resort is a peaceful and invigorating getaway nestled into twenty-five acres of lush tropical forest with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. We have six vacation homes, a restaurant and a pool, providing the perfect setting for a nature-filled adventure, especially for surfing and spotting sea turtles.

This is not your typical vacation destination. Living in the jungle is not for everyone, but it can be a paradise for those seeking relaxation in a paradise that is truly off the beaten track. Brovilla is a small, family-run business, and we do our best to help you feel at home during your stay!

We are located along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula, between the small towns of San Juanillo and Ostional, at the edge of the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. Much of the surrounding land is protected by the refuge and local conservation projects, maintaining vast stretches of pristine and undeveloped beaches, jungle, rivers, waterfalls and mountains. The forests are filled with vibrant wildlife, including howler monkeys and many varieties of birds and butterflies. Roads are unpaved, and small towns maintain their Tico charm.

Brovilla is less than one kilometer (half a mile) from Playa Ostional. This beautiful black-sand beach has some of the best surf in the area, with consistent waves all year long. It is also one of the world’s most important sea turtle nesting grounds. While turtles may be seen at the beach throughout the year, Olive Ridley sea turtles have huge synchronized arrivals once a month. During these arribadas, or arrivals, hundreds of thousands of turtles may come within a few days to lay millions of eggs in the sand. Baby sea turtles usually hatch about fifty days later. The largest arribadas occur between July and December, although smaller numbers can be seen throughout the year. Considering how elusive these turtles can be in the ocean, witnessing an arribada is an unforgettable experience.

Travelers have endless options within driving distance, including world-class surfing at Playas Guiones and Ostional, hiking, mountain biking, zip lining, horseback riding, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, ATV rentals and more. There is a thriving yoga community about half an hour away, with many schools and classes to choose from, as well as massage and other relaxation offerings. If you’re looking for Costa Rican culture, head to the rodeo in Santa Cruz, peruse local pottery in Guaitil or learn about legends of the Chorotega people at the Festival de la Virgen de Guadalupe in Nicoya (offered seasonally).

While some of our facilities have been here for many years, Brovilla Resort has recently been remodeled under new ownership and management.
